Our History
Sunday, May 13, 1956, the Mountlake Terrace Church of Christ began its ministry in southern Snohomish County with twenty-nine visionaries. The inaugural Sunday assembly in our own facility was in March of 1975, and was celebrated by over 200 attendees. Our first fifty-two years have illustrated an active participation in God’s Kingdom Story in the Northern Puget Sound region with three church plants (Woodinville, Marysville & Monroe). Additionally, we have supported international missions in the Philippines, Africa, Latin America and New Guinea. The legacy of the first fifty-two years of the Mountlake Terrace Church of Christ positively impacted the spiritual journeys of thousands of people.
Our denominational or “tribal” roots can be found in the American Restoration movement of the early 19th century, but our spiritual heritage parallels the first century Christianity that is described in the Bible. Our core beliefs are centered on the inspired version of God’s Kingdom Story that is told in the Bible. This Story of Good News is all about God’s love and His desire to reclaim His creation. The ultimate proof of God’s love is His graceful and merciful gift of Jesus Christ, in whom our restoration will transpire. Jesus’ part of the Kingdom Story is to fulfill the redemptive mission of God. God has invited us be part of His mission by joining in this story as we live out our lives.
As we begin our next fifty years, we still hold to the tenets of our faith and our mission: We believe that each Christian has a call on their life to live out their individual faith story as part of God’s Kingdom Story. We believe our purpose is to continue to be an active part of the story as we demonstrate God’s love to our community. As part of our renewed vision and embracing of Christ's early mission, we are changing our name to reflect our commitment and focus….we are Christ’s Heritage Church.
Christ’s Heritage captures not only the essence of Jesus’ mission, but aptly embodies the pioneering efforts and values of our spiritual ancestors. Christ’s Heritage is the banner we carry into the 21st Century.
Christ’s Heritage Church continues to be mission focused. Our current mission activities include the PUMP Church, in Portland, OR, Dave & Kathy Dowlen’s ministries in Central and Eastern Washington State, home building in Mexico, and medical relief in Guatemala and China. We even found 10,000 bottles of water for a school that was impacted by the floods. We have more plans to impact our community, the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
We have a clear mission, an amazing heritage, and a vision that embodies both. We invite you to engage us in conversation to see how your story dovetails our's. We invite you to join Christ’s Heritage Church in God’s Kingdom adventure.
